Forget for a second the image of Pamela Anderson running on the beach in her barely-there bikini and concentrate on the hard facts. Finely-chiselled bodies, six packs (abs not beer), and a sun-kissed look, these are a given when you happen to be a lifeguard. Add to that mouth-to-mouth resuscitation and the added perk of seeing members of the opposite sex in various stages of undress, all day long, and whatever alternatives you might have had simply fade away. The icing on the cake is definitely the element of heroism that the general public accords the lifeguards. And rightly so, as most oft en it’s these people whose presence of mind and timely response makes the difference between life and death.
