Bharti Retail on track

So how long will it take for Bharti Retail – with Wal-Mart in tow –Sunil Bharti Mittal to start shops in India? The information in the market is that the retail venture is on track – and is likely to start early next year. Sunil Bharti Mittal, Bharti Group Chairman and CEO, recently back from the US (where he met Wal-Mart Vice Chairman Mike Duke), told journalists in New Delhi that, “The process is going as per the plan and we are looking at a cluster of stores by early 2008... you will see half-a-dozen coming up.” The branding of the project is still being worked out with Wal-Mart. “Legal issues like brand agreement, franchise arrangement may take some time, but we are going ahead as per the plan,” Mittal added. It has already been decided that Bharti will manage the frontend, while Wal-Mart would provide back-end and logistics support.

Guarding your life

Question. Which is the sexiest profession in the world? As many possible candidates race through your mind, I have just one word for you, Baywatch! Forget for a second the image of Pamela Anderson running on the beach in her barely-there bikini and concentrate on the hard facts. Finely-chiselled bodies, six packs (abs not beer), and a sun-kissed look, these are a given when you happen to be a lifeguard. Add to that mouth-to-mouth resuscitation and the added perk of seeing members of the opposite sex in various stages of undress, all day long, and whatever alternatives you might have had simply fade away. The icing on the cake is definitely the element of heroism that the general public accords the lifeguards. And rightly so, as most oft en it’s these people whose presence of mind and timely response makes the difference between life and death.
