tug of- war between Kumar Mangalam Birla and Ratan Tata

According to Indian law, no operator can hold more than 10% stake in two companies that are competing with each other in the same circle or region. Tata Teleservices, with a national footprint, was a clear competitor of Idea. When the Aditya Birla group formally complained to the Telecom Ministry about this conflict of interest as well as violation of law, the Tata group dismissed the complaints as misleading and insisted that it was not violating any norms or laws. Idea, as a company, was the clear loser in this tug of- war between Kumar Mangalam Birla and Ratan Tata and couldn’t expand its subscriber base as rapidly as other telecom companies like Airtel, Hutch and Reliance Infocom.

Look who’s back!

The year was 2000 and those were the days when Big B’s towering personality looked some what hunched by a failed company – AB Corporation Ltd. and a row of flops. His second innings looked like a big mistake. Then happened Kaun Banega Crorepati, a reality based game show which brought back the superstar of the 70s and 80s right into our living rooms and bedrooms, in a never-before-seen avtaar. And the rest, as they say is history. Indisputably, Amitabh Bachchan is the best example of how a reality show proved to be a second coming for a yesteryears celebrity. There are other examples too, but mostly of failures as against success cases.

Did you notice the fair, handsome guy (with long hair) in the new reality show Bigg Boss? Yes, we know you have seen him somewhere. He is Rahul Roy, the hero of Aashiqui, Junoon etc. After his short stint with Bollywood, Roy tried to make a come back through a few (forgettable) soaps, finally he agreed to lock himself for three months in a house with 13 other small-time celebs for a reality show ‘Bigg Boss’, and he seems to be getting quite some attention these days. Similar is the case with Deepak Parashar, yesteryears’ hot model turned actor.
