Killing off rumours about a new venture, Intel recently announced that it has absolutely no plans to set up an assembly facility in the country. An Intel spokesperson has however said that this decision is not only for India but relevant in a global context. It was speculated that Intel would set up a fabrication unit or an assembly test facility in India in lieu of the government’s announcing the semi conductor policy early this year. Figures state that India needn’t be disappointed as Intel would in any case would have pumped in more than $1 billion in India by the end of 2007 (largest R&D site outside the US).
